- Hi Atari tech folks,
-
- there will soon be a chance for me to get my 520 STfm, which
- currently has 2.5 MB and TOS 1.04, upgraded to 4 MB and TOS 2.06
- at a reasonable price. While I'm most determined to go for the 4
- MB upgrade, I'm not so sure about the TOS 2.06 one. I am not sure
- whether there is any major advantage of TOS 2.06 that I can't
- have with TOS 1.04 and the standard patches.
- I'm not looking for info about the TOS 2.06 desktop or such -- I
- use it every day at work. I am interested in technical details in
- the internals that may not be obvious to someone like me, who
- uses the ST for GFA programming, GNU C programming at beginner
- level (hope that's going to change in the future :-), terminal
- emulation with UniTerm, word processing, playing, and some other
- stuff.
- Currently, it seems to me that TOS 2.06 offers a lot more
- convenience than TOS 1.04, but there's not any major difference
- between TOS 1.04 and TOS 2.06 at the level of OS functionality.
- But since I'm not the OS hacker type, it's quite possible that
- this is not correct, hence my question.
- A question that comes to my mind is, a while ago I was told that
- the TOS 2.06 expansion card was designed to be able to be
- equipped with MultiTOS ROMs in the future. Could anyone comment
- on that?
-
- I will post a summary if I receive interesting mail replies on
- this posting.
-
- Greetinx & thanx in advance, Jan
