- Wouldn't it be a great idea if Atari were to offer ST owners a swap scheme
- in order for them to get their hands on a Falcon?
-
- I bought a 520STFM in March 1990, right before Atari decided to dwindle the
- price of an STE; since then I've upgraded to 1Mb, got a sampling cartridge
- and an external floppy disk drive: the point is, if I were to get a Falcon,
- all this stuff would be useless! If a swap scheme was in operation, Atari
- could take our old hardware (use it for spares or sell it again for cheaper
- perhaps) and give us a spanking new Falcon: obviously we would have to give
- Atari some money as well; they can't give away Falcons!
-
- I seem to remember Commodore offering a similar scheme for Amiga 500 owners
- upgrading to a CD-TV. If Commodore can do it, it must be viable (that or
- Commodore have egg on their faces). Atari don't even have to operate it -
- perhaps respectable mail order companies could do it, keeping the STs and
- disk drives, etc. for resale or repairs.
-
- Despite my enthusiasm for such a concept, I doubt very much whether it will
- come true: I'll have to sell my ST system for a pittance (FMs can't be worth
- very much now if you can get an STE mail order for 250 pounds) and save up
- the money to afford the (allegedly) newly-boxed Falcon when it arrives on
- March 1st (or whenever).
-
- Well, I suppose, if you don't dream, then you'll never have a dream come true!
- (do sing along, Captain Sensible fans!)
-
- Before I go, a question: 'Will Sensible Soccer be available on the Falcon?'
-
- Cheerio, Atarians.
