- Jon, no offense, but your statement reads almost exactly like the statements
- made over the years every time Atari talks about releasing a new computer.
-
- When the Mega line was released, it was going to reposition Atari Corp as
- a real competitor in the business market. It was going to revitalize the
- company and place Atari among the true giants of business computers.
-
- It never happened.
-
- When the 1040 STe was released, it was going to be the "Amiga Killer", and
- revitalize the Atari market with its "superior graphics and sound", and
- win back Atari's position in the entertainment software market.
-
- It never happened.
-
- When the TT was released, it was going to mark the emergence of Atari Corp.
- into the workstation market, competing with the likes of Sun and Apollo.
- Finally Atari would be vindicated by rising to the top ranks of "professional
- workstations.
-
- It never happened.
-
- The Atari Transputer Workstation (formerly known as the ABAQ) would bring
- Atari into the world of the scientific parallel processing machine. It would
- revitalize the Atari name and bring Atari to the cutting edge of
- technology.
-
- It never happened.
-
- And here we are today, with the lastest technological stride from
- Atari still unseen by most of the world, still unknown by most of the
- buying public, and still unproven...
-
- Will it happen this time..?
-
- I really do hope so... but you have to understand why this all feels
- like hearing the little boy up on the hill crying "Wolf" one more time...
-
- (There are other parallels to the idea that the Lynx will bring an influx
- of marketing money for the computer products (that never happened), but
- this is long enough already...)
-
- I really do hope that the Falcon is as good a product as Jack Tramiel is
- said to finally think it is.. the word is that while he never believed in
- the ability of the ST to succeed in the US market, he's willing to put
- his backing behind the Falcon. I guess we'll see if that's true or not...
