  13. Well, no one has answered my question sufficiently so I'll give some more 
  14. details.  The RANA Elite Hard drive came out over ten years ago so I would
  15. say it is Apple ][ compatible.  It works fine in my ENHANCED Apple //e with
  16. a NCR 65C02.  It will not work with a WDC 65C802.  I know the problem is
  17. related to a timing problem since I took a logic probe to the board that
  18. interfaces to the card.  Basically, the card uses C0F0-C0FF (when in 
  19. slot 7) to select either a 1k ROM or one of 7k RAMs (8 total possibilities).
  20. It uses just the last three bits of the address line to select one of these 
  21. using a 74ls138 3-to-8 decoder.  It also uses 3 of the 74ls75's 4 D-FF to
  22. hold the current selection.  The problem is that the D-FF's are holding the
  23. wrong number.  I cannot trace the problem back toward the edge connector
  24. since the traces go under several IC's which I do not wish to take the time
  25. to desolder and solder back on later.  The ROM on the card is slot 
  26. independent and written for a 6502 (not a 65c02, I know this since I can
  27. disassemble it with the ROM monitor which cannot disassemble newer 65c02 
  28. instructions).  In case you're wondering, the WDC 65c802 is rated for 6Mhz,
  29. but this doesn't mean kaka since the computer will only run a 1.023 Mhz.
  30. I have the data sheets for a WDC 65C02, a WDC 65C802/816, and in the 
  31. Apple //e technical reference, a NCR 65C02.  I am not familiar enough with
  32. timing diagrams to be able to tell if the problem is a difference in timing
  33. between a NCR 65C02 and a WDC 65C802.

  35. What I want is any news of anybody experiencing trouble one they replaced a
  36. 65C02 with a 65C802.  I don't care about who manufactured them, I want to 
  37. know about the problems anyway.  OR if anybody familiar with timing diagrams
  38. could tell me if it IS a timing problem between a NCR 65C02 and a WDC 65C802.

  40. Now, what I don't want are rumors, suggestions, or guesses.  No offence to
  41. anybody, but I want to know what the problem IS, not what it could be.

  43. One more thing, the 65C802 upon power up starts in emulation mode (E=1) and
  44. I put it in emulation mode and tried the Hard Drive (just in case) and it 
  45. still does not work.
