  11. Fact:  The A1200 has a boot menu which can be accessed by pressing and
  12.        and holding both mouse buttons during bootup.
  13.  
  14. Fact:  The boot menu allows you to disable devices (such as external drives,
  15.        certain hard disk partitions, etc.) and the CPU cache.

  17. Fact:  The boot menu allows you to select which chipset you'd like to use
  18.        upon bootup:  OCS, ECS, or Best Available (the ambiguous selection.)

  20. I have no problems with the afore mentioned procedures.  I don't have any
  21. proof that they DON'T work.  :-)  From within the boot menu, one can
  22. "press any key" to toggle the display between NTSC and PAL.  One can also
  23. select either the NTSC of PAL button from the Display Menu which (I assume)
  24. will switch the display to whatever you select at boot time.

  26. Legitimate question:  Why do we have two methods of switching the display
  27.        at boot time?  Are the options redundant or is there a difference?

  29. I have an NTSC A1200.  The boot menu comes up in NTSC.  I can press any
  30. key to toggle the display to PAL.  I can also select the PAL button from the
  31. Display Menu.  When I insert a disk (such as a PAL game or PAL demo) and
  32. select the "Boot" button, the machine boots in NTSC.

  34. Fact:  Regardless of the selections made within the boot menu, an NTSC
  35.        A1200 cannot boot a disk with a custom bootblock (such as a game
  36.        or demo) in PAL mode.

  38. HA HA HA!  It just can't do it.  The hardware just can't do it, and I'm
  39. interested in knowing why.  Anyway, I'd love for you to prove me wrong.
  40. Try it and see for yourself.  If you reply to me, be certain to include the
  41. name of the PAL demo or game along with the selections made from within the
  42. bootmenu.  See for yourself; it can't be done.  :-(
