- Fact: The A1200 has a boot menu which can be accessed by pressing and
- and holding both mouse buttons during bootup.
-
- Fact: The boot menu allows you to disable devices (such as external drives,
- certain hard disk partitions, etc.) and the CPU cache.
-
- Fact: The boot menu allows you to select which chipset you'd like to use
- upon bootup: OCS, ECS, or Best Available (the ambiguous selection.)
-
- I have no problems with the afore mentioned procedures. I don't have any
- proof that they DON'T work. :-) From within the boot menu, one can
- "press any key" to toggle the display between NTSC and PAL. One can also
- select either the NTSC of PAL button from the Display Menu which (I assume)
- will switch the display to whatever you select at boot time.
-
- Legitimate question: Why do we have two methods of switching the display
- at boot time? Are the options redundant or is there a difference?
-
- I have an NTSC A1200. The boot menu comes up in NTSC. I can press any
- key to toggle the display to PAL. I can also select the PAL button from the
- Display Menu. When I insert a disk (such as a PAL game or PAL demo) and
- select the "Boot" button, the machine boots in NTSC.
-
- Fact: Regardless of the selections made within the boot menu, an NTSC
- A1200 cannot boot a disk with a custom bootblock (such as a game
- or demo) in PAL mode.
-
- HA HA HA! It just can't do it. The hardware just can't do it, and I'm
- interested in knowing why. Anyway, I'd love for you to prove me wrong.
- Try it and see for yourself. If you reply to me, be certain to include the
- name of the PAL demo or game along with the selections made from within the
- bootmenu. See for yourself; it can't be done. :-(
