- There was a company a few years back called SPI (Strategic Publications
- Inc.) that produced a wide variety of board games. I have a large number of
- these and was going to try to port one or two of my favorites into a
- computer game. Does anyone know who owns the rights to these games? Someone
- told me that TSR had bought all the rights from SPI. If anyone could
- provide verification of this, I'd like to know. Some titles avid gamers
- might recognize were Star Force, Star Soldier, Outreach, BattleFleet Mars,
- Foxbat and Phantom, etc., etc. They produced over 100 titles in their time
- as a company.
-
- On a side note, let's say I produce a computer version of monopoly.
- Does anyone know the legal aspects of bringing it to market? Or does
- Parker Brothers have the right to sue me for a cut of the profits if I
- release it without obtaining their permission for the rights. If it is
- freeware, then I guess I would be safe. If it were shareware or
- commercial-ware, then I am probably subject to copyright laws, and
- legal hassle. Does anyone know the facts?
