  18. There's an excellent introduction called 'A Gentle Guide to TeX' from
  19. the University of Manitoba.  You might find it on Niord.SHSU.edu, or
  20. ymir.claremont.edu... look for gentletex.??? or something like that.

  22. As far as your font problems, have a close look at the configuration
  23. files for ShowDVI and DVIprint.
