- I've recently installed AmigaDOS 2.04, and SKsh2.1 on my A500 without a
- harddrive (used 1.3 and SKsh1.7 before). Despite Steve Koren's warning
- about needing a hard drive, I've had few problems so far, but the most
- vexing is that the 'U' option does not appear to work -- that's the one
- which prompts for an unmounted device rather than just telling you that
- it wasn't found. This is useful to many people, but often indispensable
- to a floppy-bound user.
-
- The funny thing about it is that SKsh seems to pass its disregard of
- unmounted volumes on to the shell upon which it is opened; in other
- words, I can open a shell, and, before starting SKsh, type something
- like archiv:zoo/zoo, and if archiv: isn't in a drive, AmigaDOS puts up a
- requester. If I then start SKsh, and make the same command, I just get
- an "archiv:zoo/zoo: not found (41)" error message (the number is a SKsh
- error code). If I then exit SKsh, but leave the shell open, and type
- the same command again, or any one referencing an unmounted volume,
- AmigaDOS now gives me a "not found" error message.
-
- Just to show that I have read the fecund manuals, from the SKsh
- Addendum2.0.doc:
-
- 'U' option flag changed
-
- The "insert volume xxx:" requester is now disabled for all
- SKsh internal commands. It previously was disabled for
- only a few. The 'U' option flag will enable them.
-
- and from the doc on 'options':
-
- +U The U option, if set, causes SKsh to use a
- requester if a component of the path contains
- an unmounted volume.
-
- Anybody have a clue? I'd appreciate the help. BTW, my SKsh options are
- 1CFUchlrs (were 1CFUchls in SKsh1.7 before true pipes made the 'r'
- option available, and the U option worked fine then).
-
- Thanks, Steve Koren for a great piece of Amiga software! I mean it!
