  10.     I have recently gotten what I think is most of the TeX distribution
  11. off of the net (PasTeX 1.3: 4 disks, MetaFont: 2 disks, 8 disks of preview
  12. fonts, dvi2ps and dvi2lj 0.49) I know that fig is out there somewhere and
  13. I may be getting that too.  I have assigns for the TeX:, mf:, and TPP:
  14. (oh, I have TPP on there too).  First, other than finding the TeXbook, is
  15. there any way I can learn to write something basic such as a lab report 
  16. (nothing wierd with margins and about 4 - 5 graphic insertions, preferably
  17. from Art Expressions or Pro Draw)?? The TeXbook is in the campus library
  18. as reference so 3 hours is the limit and I can't find it anywhere else. 
  19. Maybe if there is a .tex file (a .guide file?!?!) or a plain ascii file or
  20. a book I can find out there that someone else is using??

  22.     I tried compiling the docs to TPP and it gave an error after a few
  23. minutes of grunging, but the .dvi file was created.  I wanted to print it
  24. out on the HP LJ IIID (I think D, it has resolution enhancement) so I used
  25. dvilj2p (I think, anyway the P version) on it and a .pcl file was created.
  26. I took the file to work and got about 80 blank pages (started the job and 
  27. came back later to a bit of disapointment) with a footnote line every now
  28. and then.  Scrolling my shell showed that the dvi2lj program couldnt find 
  29. some fonts.  What kind of fonts does it want and where do they go? I have
  30. callmf set to mf:rexx/callmf ..... like its supposed to, I have yet to see
  31. any evidence of it being used (although all 8 disks of preview fonts are
  32. on my HD, and that is the first file I tried to print).

  34.     Maybe if I can get this to start working I may be able to reformat
  35. my AMax partition and reclaim some space as Word is about all I use anymore.
