- I kind of like particularly obscure computers, and in Canada,
- the Acorns certainly qualify. I've decided to upgrade my old 8-bit
- computer, and would like to consider one of these...
- A note on my old system - it has a multitasking OS, few
- applications, and a primitive windowing system. The OS is similar
- to Unix, only really small (8-bit after all!).
-
- So I'd like to get some information on what Archemedes are
- like - general hardware and software, as well as what they feel
- like. What are some good points, what are some awkward parts?
- I'm familier with the ARM processor, but not the rest of the
- hardware. What are the models, and what is expansion like (I figure
- there's no AT-type bus - and that's a good thing!)? Are drives SCSI
- or some propriety interface?
- I understand the OS is multitasking, and has some neat windows
- stuff. Are graphics device independent? Is the file system your
- standard unix or DOS type, or something different like in Macintosh
- or VMS? What are the four best ways of crashing it (yes, be honest)?
- Is any language included? C or C++ (and others) available?
-
- I've got the address for Acorn Canada, so if I decide to get
- more information, that's no problem. I'd just prefer to hear from
- users rather than just read a technical pamphlet/advertisement.
- Thanks!
-
- John Bayko.
