- Ok, I have a small problem that I can live with but would like to fix:
- yesterday I tried to shutdown my 3b1, but instead of getting the typical
- "YOU MAY NOW SWITCH THE POWER OFF" (or whatever it is it says) init
- prompted me for a run-level to enter. It wouldn't go into single user,
- (it flashed something like "No shell"), and since I didn't have any
- getty's at any level other than 2 I had to go back into run level 2. Now
- since I wanted the 3b1 *off* I did it again and then waited at the prompt
- to see if init would sync every 30 secs, and since it didn't I assumed
- it was ok to shut the power off. Next time I brought the system up there
- were no fsck errors.
-
- Now, I checked the shutdown script for any problems, I did killall and
- then "init s" (I realize now that I didn't wait to see if init would
- cause a reboot) and then I 'exit'ed the shell and got the same prompt
- for a run-level. (The ony processes running before I exited the shell
- were init pagedaemon and windaemon plus, of course, my ksh and ps).
-
- Like I said, I can live with this since it seems safe to shut off my 3b1
- at the run-level prompt, but it is annoying. Any ideas on what could be
- wrong? Also how can I go into single-user mode from that prompt? (What
- inittab entry do I need? I though ' ssh:s:respawn:sh </dev/console
- >/dev/console' might do, but I don't have the man page for sh at hand).
-
- Thanks,
-
- Nick
