- Folk,
- OK, I have a wd2010 enroute to Castle Fritz, and I intend to install
- it ASAP with my machine. Much of the reference material available concerning
- upgrading to this controler chip (just the chip at present, not additional
- disks or a P5.1 mod) mentions updating the VHB (Volume Header Block).
- However, I have not been able to find out how this is done without
- reformating the drive. I have checked the fast disk driver, HWNotes, and the
- DRUN data, as well as the faq. I have also looked at the manual page for
- iv(1m), which is less than clear, but does have the "-u":update VHB and "-d":
- get current description options.
- I assume that there is some way of simply using fsdb from a floppy
- boot to tweak the byte in the VHB that needs tweaking. It is a byte, I
- looked at /usr/include/sys/gdisk.h (not gonna fall into THAT trap |-} ).
- My question is this, since I am using OS rev 3.51m which can
- determine the presence of a wd2010 do I need to do anything? Will the
- kernel update the VHB along the the superblock upon the next sync? If I use
- the fast disk driver, does this obviate the need to directly twiddle the
- VHB? Am I a babe in the woods without a clue?
-
- Enquiring minds want to know,
- Fritz
-
- PS: What is a "Spurious Interrupt level 2"? I seem to be getting a set of
- three at boot time according to unix.log. This is only on boot, and they
- always appear in groups of three. Am I doomed?
