  15. I REGARD THEM AS MEANING:

  17. - A message switch uses at least 1 mail protocol
  18. - A message gateway uses at least 2 mail protocols
  19.  
  20. Also, I sometimes see "message switch" used in opposition to 
  21. "end-user mailer", in the meaning that
  22.  
  23. - A message switch talks to at least 2 other mail systems
  24. - An end-user mailer talks to at least 1 other mail system (probably
  25.   a message switch).
