  17.   Are you sure? Did you check the distance between the sets of holes at BOT?
  18. This is how drives determine the media type.

  20.   Also, DC600 is not the correct media for a 150Mb drive. The correct media
  21. is DC6150 (150Mb, not to be confused with the 15Mb DC615, which is a short
  22. DC600) and DC6250 (250Mb). DC600A's should be readable in a 150Mb drive, as
  23. long as they are encoded in QIC-24 mode and not QIC-11, but probably will not
  24. be writable.

  26.   The oxide on the tape is different (vastly different coercivity and abrasion
  27. characteristics) and the tape length is different as well. Assuming that you
  28. could force the drive to write the tape, I believe you will experience both a
  29. high initial write error rate and rapid degradation of the stored data (the
  30. timeframe for total loss should be a few weeks at most).

  32.   While I can understand that high-density media may not be as available else-
  33. where, I'd encourage you to use the proper media for your drive even if it's
  34. hard to obtain / expensive / etc.
