- I have been using a program for over a year that allows you to
- print UNIX jobs on your PC printer, and PC jobs on a UNIX
- printer. The product is called JSB MultiView Desktop (there's
- also an X version that provides an X client on your PC) and it
- runs under MS-Windows 3.x. It allows up to six simultaneous UNIX
- sessions (each running in a window) as well as file transfer.
-
- The 7th pseudo tty is reserved for printing and is used to
- configure a UNIX printer. Whenever data flows to this pseudo
- tty, the MultiView Host Support Module (HSM), which runs on the
- host and is linked into the kernel, transfers the print file to
- your PC. After the transfer it is sent to your default Windows
- printer, either directly or through Print Manager. Works great!
-
- Going the other way, you install a printer on a file, say
- c:\laser.prn. Then a MultiView background task watches for this
- file to appear. It then transfers the file to the UNIX host and
- submits a print job to the spooler of your choice. It also works
- great!
-
- It comes in 1, 5 & 10 user licenses and support is available
- through email (which I like) from Allen Smith - Support Manager
- allens@jsbus.jsbus.com. It supports many networks and serial
- connections, with an automatic login chat that you can "teach"
- about your environment. As I say, I've used it for over a year
- and am very pleased. We have several clients with dozens of
- users using it - all think it is a fantastic way to get Windows
- into UNIX.
