  15.     I hope someone in netland can provide some insight into this
  16.     printing problem.

  18.     My boss retrieved some postscript files from an MVS site, which he
  19.     wanted me to print on our LPS20 laser printer. But, when I tried it
  20.     with the following command

  22.         $ Print/Notify/Queue=PRT$LPS20A_PS-
  23.           /Param=(Sides=2, Page_Orient=PORTTRAIT, Number_UP=1) 'Filename'

  25.     I get the following error after the job has started:

  27.     %LPS-W-UNDEF, undefined: Name not known - offending command is letter
  28.  
  29.     I have to admit that I know very little postscript programming, but
  30.     the above message seemed to indicate that the postscript interpretor
  31.     on the LPS20 does not understand the command 'letter'. Since I
  32.     couldn't correct the error (for lack of PS programming experience),
  33.     I tried to view the file using the following command
  34.  
  35.         $ VIEW/FORMAT=PS/INTERFACE=DECWINDOWS
  36.  
  37.     on the same VAXstation that drives the LPS20 printer, and I could
  38.     see the entire file with no complaints! The file also prints when
  39.     COPYed to a slave NEC 290 laser printer off of a PC!
  40.  
  41.     So, my questions are:
  42.  
  43.     1)  why the LPS20 so picky?
  44.     2)  What happened to the offending command with the CDA VIEWER or
  45.         the NEC 290 laser printer? Did they just 'ignore' it?
  46.     3)  Most importantly, how can I convince the LPS20 to print these
  47.         files (there are about 8 of them!) before my boss get all upset?
