- Hello:
-
- I hope someone in netland can provide some insight into this
- printing problem.
-
- My boss retrieved some postscript files from an MVS site, which he
- wanted me to print on our LPS20 laser printer. But, when I tried it
- with the following command
-
- $ Print/Notify/Queue=PRT$LPS20A_PS-
- /Param=(Sides=2, Page_Orient=PORTTRAIT, Number_UP=1) 'Filename'
-
- I get the following error after the job has started:
-
- %LPS-W-UNDEF, undefined: Name not known - offending command is letter
-
- I have to admit that I know very little postscript programming, but
- the above message seemed to indicate that the postscript interpretor
- on the LPS20 does not understand the command 'letter'. Since I
- couldn't correct the error (for lack of PS programming experience),
- I tried to view the file using the following command
-
- $ VIEW/FORMAT=PS/INTERFACE=DECWINDOWS
-
- on the same VAXstation that drives the LPS20 printer, and I could
- see the entire file with no complaints! The file also prints when
- COPYed to a slave NEC 290 laser printer off of a PC!
-
- So, my questions are:
-
- 1) why the LPS20 so picky?
- 2) What happened to the offending command with the CDA VIEWER or
- the NEC 290 laser printer? Did they just 'ignore' it?
- 3) Most importantly, how can I convince the LPS20 to print these
- files (there are about 8 of them!) before my boss get all upset?
-
- Relevant data: VMS 5.4-2, LPS 4.1
-
- Thanks for any input. I am taking 2 Postscript books home with me
- tonight, and you can bet what my bed time reading is going to be!
- :-)
