- Yesterday I talked to the dealer who sold us the EXABYTE drives. First he
- tried to tell me that nothing was wrong with our drives and we were not
- using them properly. But after I told him how I tracked down the problem
- to the firmware of the drive, he admitted that there was certain version
- of the firmware which has the described sizing problem and the EPROMs in
- our drives are obsolete although the drives were manufactured in April 1991.
- This bogus firmware will report END OF TAPE to the host way before the real
- physical end of tape. Now comes the outrageous part, he will charge us
- $200 for each update of the firmware!!! It seems that the next problem
- is inevitable.
