- I hope someone can help me:
-
- We have UCX TELNET (v1.3?; release notes are UCX013...) for our local network.
- Periodically, I want to log into a STARDENT, which we use for some number
- crunching. Don't ask why we have a STARDENT; I'm just a user! The problem is
- that the STARDENT uses what I assume is a derivative of 4.3 bsd UN*X: i.e.,
- the end-of-line specification is <CR><NULL>. When I telnet and try to use an
- editor (EDT+; Boston Computing; similar to VMS EDT) on the Stardent, the
- program thinks that the RETURN key is CTRL J (it also thinks CTRL M is CTRL J).
- Therefore, I have no way of terminating commands in 'line mode'.
-
- Within telnet, I tried enabling crmod (or disabling crlf). When I do this, the
- RETURN key works as it should in line mode, but RETURN now sends <CR><LF> in
- screen mode, which is a greater nuisance. (Output to my screen from the
- command level of the STARDENT, such as directory listings, is also delimitated
- by <CR><LF> -- i.e., a blank line after each file listed.)
-
-
- So my question:
-
- Can I change -within VMS- what is sent by hitting the RETURN key? (I routinely
- use VT220 or VT320 terminals). Is there another solution to my problem or am I
- S-O-L? (Getting the Multinet package is out of the question.)
-
- When I'm at work, it's no problem to start a new session, but when I've logged
- on from home, it's much easier to just telnet to the STARDENT.
-
- Thanks for any assistance,
-
- Jim Clifton
