- # This suggests an idea.... Maybe there IS a use for all our old CDBIN
- #(er, VAXBINs from now on) CD-ROMs, if the folks in Sabry's situation
- #could only afford CD readers that are only 2 - 3 times as expensive as
- #the paper documentation set.... I wonder if anyone out there in netland
- #has gotten so sick of their RRD40's that they've replaced them, and
- #would like to get a tax deduction, and someone else who's willing to act
- #as the nonprofit middleperson to forward the CD drives and CD-ROMs to
- #"deserving" 3W sites.
- # The American Astronomical Society (and most likely other scientific
- #and professional organizations, as well) does this for astronomical
- #journals in desperate demand in the FSU and Third World. Think anybody
- #in DECUS would be interested in organizing such an effort, and would DEC
- #allow the transfer of the old CD's without grumbling?

- Great idea. I was the first on the net to suggest this type of
- thing, and I even asked DEC if someone on-line was listening. I got some
- private responses but I did not hear of any official action yet. But your
- point about DECUS *specifically* getting behind the drive to send old
- documentation to the Third World is a really good idea.
