- Nobody is happy about losing access to a technical expert. But one must
- look at the cost of the expertise: he tried to extract his payment from
- the group in the form of indulgence of his abusive personality. Some
- non-confrontational people even thought it was worth it. But I've never
- liked bullies, whether physical or intellectual, and I think I'm not
- alone in this.

-
- Here we disagree. The number of people chased away far exceeds the number
- of people Carl has flamed. A lot of good questions never got asked at all,
- because potential participants saw that we had a mad dog on our hands.
- And most of those answers would have come eventually from people with
- less time on their hands than Carl apparently has.

-
- Knowing what's relevant and what's not is one of the things that divides
- the help-givers from the help-needers. It is not fair nor valid to expect
- the questioners to know [almost] as much as the answerers before they even
- ask. And it is most certainly rude to flame them in public if they don't.
