  13. I just purchased 4 4MB SIMMS to upgrade my machine (486 ISA) to 16MB from
  14. 8MB.  Having done that, the machine itself seems to be snappier, and
  15. almost never swaps, *but* ... the video performance under PM has slowed down!!!

  17. I thought I was imagining it, so I used PM-Bench, changing _only_ the memory
  18. from 8 to 16 MB.  Here are the results:

  35. These are only some of the tests, but it is obvious that speed has halved !!!
  36. I can actually see dialog boxes draw themselves, rather than snap on like they
  37. used to ...

  39. The old (8MB worth) memory is 1MB SIMMS @ 80ns, the new stuff is 4MB SIMMS
  40. @ 70ns.  The CMOS setup allows only to enable or disable the BIOS shadow,
  41. which has no effect.  The same symptoms appear with two different video
  42. cards.  The motherboard is called an ISA-486S, with an Award BIOS v.4.00.

  44. Has anyone experienced this before?  I called the supplier, and they drew a
  45. blank, so I thought I would tap the resources of the net ...  The only thing
  46. I could think of is something to do with the memory interleave, but I can't
  47. change anything in the cmos setup ... and FWIW, DOS+Windoze runs normal.
