- Subject: Locking Keyboard in W 3.1 -- Need help
- Lines: 31
-
- Hello. I have a client who is experiencing a rather annoying problem.
- He is in another state, so all activity regarding his problem is
- garnered from that which he has told me. I haven't actually seen it
- first hand, nor do I have direct access to his system.
-
- He is running (primarily) Wordperfect for Windows (he hasn't upgraded
- to the newly released version) in Windows 3.1. He says that his key-
- board has a habit of locking up, especially when he is using the arrow
- keys. The mouse is still functional, and he usually just closes up the
- session and reboots, and the problem is gone. He also claims that if
- he lets the computer sit for a while, typing nothing, when he gets back
- the keyboard has locked up again. Again, the mouse is still functional.
-
- He is running a i486DX-50 with 16 megs of RAM. ATI Graphics Ultra 1m
- with built in mouse. QEMM is his memory manager. The keyboard is a
- Keytronics unit. Standard Windows setup, I don't believe he has altered
- much.
-
- Admittedly I don't know that much about Windows, but I seem to recall
- that a possible memory address conflict could produce the results I
- describe here. I have recommended that he upgraded his WP, and I have
- also sent him a disk that will perform a complete diagnostic regarding
- interrupts, memory, etc. Until then I won't have much more information.
-
- For now I'm not automatically assuming it's a bad keyboard. I have,
- however, recommended that he borrow another keyboard and see if the
- problem can be replicated.
-
- Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
- Jason Vagner.
