- Well, at this point, it seems that your most viable option (although not the
- most pleasant option) is to reformat your hard drive using fdisk (or the
- appropriate analogy in ms-dos 5.0--I'm using DR DOS 6.0). :( Normally, when
- your hard drive's FAT has been corrupted it need to be either "fixed" with
- PC-Tools/Norton Utilities/Mace Utilities (difficult and dangerous) or
- reformatted (time consuming).
-
- If you decide to reformat, try the following:
- 1) install ms-dos 5.0
- 2) install superstor and prepare your hard drive (reserving what you need
- uncompressed) and reboot
- 3) install 386max and copy that directory to drive d: (the drive superstor
- swaps your compressed drive with) along with the ms-dos 5.0 directory
- 4) reboot and run maximize
- 5) if everything is still running smoothly, install the rest of your programs,
- run maximize, then run update from the ssutil menu
-
- Hopefully, everything is running ok after all this. This was the procedure I
- used to get everything running smoothly on my computer. The only difference is
- that I'm using qemm (which came with DESQview/X), DR DOS 6.0 (which includes a
- different version of superstor), and SuperStor Pro. The odd thing is, when I
- need to run optimize after running update, I need to re-install qemm each
- time... not much of a hassle, but quite annoying nevertheless.
-
- Hope this helps. If not, definitely contact the 386MAX people. Quarterdeck
- had white papers/technical notes detailing using superstor with qemm386 and
- using dr dos (and it's version of superstor) with qemm386. Maybe Qualitas (the
- people who publish 386MAX, right?) has similar material or has figured out how
- to use superstor with 386MAX and has technical support people who could tell
- you could tell you how they did it. Those white papers from quarterdeck were
- extremely helpful. I don't think I would have gotten things to work so
- smoothly without out them.
