- I was in the Win 3.1 beta program, and I remember being solicited to
- join the NT program. Now that I finally have upgraded to equipment
- that can handle Win NT well, I am interested in joining the Win NT
- beta program. But, before I do join I have some questions and
- reservations. Now, before I ask my questions I must say that I am
- aware of what an NDA is, and for that reason I would prefer it if a
- person from Microsoft would get back to me.
-
- My first and main worry is my stacked hard drive. I take it that I will
- not be able to use the drive because of the way NT deals with device
- drivers. I would like to know if there are any work arounds or if there
- is a Stacker NT driver beta. Are there any other drivers that are
- incompatible with NT. I need to know that if, for example, the manufacturer
- of my hand scanner for some brain dead reason decides not to write an NT
- driver that I will still be able to use the old dos driver, software, and
- windows software. Compatability was almost a crusade in the Win 3.1 beta
- I would like to know if this positive philosophy of the 3.1 beta is also
- in practice with the NT beta. I would really apreciate any info about
- any other traps, or even positive aspects of the OS, that are not common
- knowledge.
-
- How big is Win NT? Bigger than OS/2? Do I really need Win NT if I am a
- single user, unnetworked, single processor, non-paranoid about security
- computer user?
-
- I hope it is not too late to join the program. I really would appreciate
- answers to my question because they will determine whether I stay with
- Win 3.1 and Dos or move up to NT.
-
-
- Thank you.

- P.S. I do have a CD-Rom and tape backup.
