- I seem to be running into a problem where if my lower 640K is
- fairly full when I start Windows, I get GPFs regularly. I've got a
- MediaVision CDPC on my system and am loading its drivers high, along with
- DOS and DOSKEY. SmartDrive is also running & takes up some high memory.
- MSCDEX gives an "insufficient memory" message (even if I try to load it
- before DOSKEY & SmartDrv when there _should_ be enough space for it).
- I'm on a Banyan Vines (4.11) network, and logging onto that drops me down
- to about 430K of useable low memory (only parts of the Banyan software will
- load high). At this point, assuming MSCDEX failed, everything runs fine.
- However, if I so much as start Netbios before going into Windows, I become
- much more GPF prone and my the e-mail software I run invariably crashes.
- If I run MSCDEX in low memory, I can't even get into Windows at all...
- GPF as soon as the screen comes up, and I'm dumped out to a blinking
- cursor and a locked machine.
-
- Can anyone suggest any tricks for better managing things so that I can
- avoid some of these problems, or settings to twiddle in SYSTEM.INI?
-
- Of course, hopefully when we switch to Vines 5.5, whose OS/2 client
- client software will allow access to netbios from DOS and WINOS/2 apps,
- I'll probably rid myself of a lot of these problems by deleting that
- thar emm ess doss thing from the drive :-)
