- FS>I have a 486 with 8MB of memory. I normally run DV and when I want to
- FS>run Windows I do it inside of DV, Windows runs in Standard mode.
- FS>(BTW it works quite well). Last night, I tried to run Windows in 386
- FS>mode (win /3). I got told that there was not enough memory. When running
- FS>MFT I have 614K of conventional memory and 5500K of Extended memory.
- FS>If I increase the conventional memory to 625K then Windows will run.
-
- One almost expects Windows error messages to mean almost anything but
- what they say, and this one is no exception. How did you increase the
- memory, however? Was it by removing a TSR? If so, which one?
-
- FS>Is there some known interaction with DR DOS, QEMM,4DOS and Windows?
- FS>I am running DR DOS 6.0 with the patch that allows Windows 3.1 to
- FS>install, QEMM 6.01, 4DOS 4.01 and Windows 3.1.
-
- FS>In QEMM I exclude the LAN adapter card (D000-D2FF) and have ST:F stealthing
- FS>on. I load high the Satisfaxtion driver, IPX, NETBIOS and REDIR. The
- FS>Mouse driver and CASMGR (for the Satisfaxtion card) low.
-
- It's an odd LAN adapter that has a 12K buffer on it -- more typically
- they're 8 or 16K. Try increasing the size of this EXCLUDE -- D000-D3FF.
- Is CASMGR using EMS? Do things work better if it does not use EMS? A
- complete copy of your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files might be more
- helpful here.
-
- Try adding
-
- systemrombreakpoint=false
- emmexclude=a000-efff
-
- to the [386 Enh] section SYSTEM.INI file in the Windows directory. If
- this doesn't work, download the files WINFLOW.TEC and WIN31.TEC,
- available on the Quarterdeck BBS at (310) 314-3227, Compuserve (!GO
- QUARTERDECK), or large local BBS systems, and also via our Q/FAX fax
- retrieval service; from the handset of your fax machine, call (310)
- 314-3214, or in Canada, (416) 665-5070.
-
- FS>Thanks for any help or leads you can give. I've talked to Microsoft, they
- FS>say to run MS-DOS.
-
- Instead of Windows? There's a first. <joke!>
