-
- Ummm -- not quite. While Oberon *was* designed for the Ceres workstation,
- there *is* (was?) a version of the system for 386's that runs from the
- dos prompt. I got it from neptune.ethz.ch in one of the subdirectories
- of /Oberon.
-
- Looking there now, I see that there appears to be a new version in the
- file /Oberon/DOS386/system.exe. There is a readme.text file in the same
- directory.
-
- From the reports I've read on them, Oberon and Oberon-2 seem fairly elegant
- languages (and I liked the decision to remove the "FROM file IMPORT thing;"
- construct (I never used it in Modula-2 anyway)), but for some reason I took
- an intense dislike to the system with its peculiar notion of windowing
- (is this what plan9 has?) and never worked out how to proceed once I'd
- closed all open windows on the screen. Maybe it would have grown on me if
- I'd given it more time.
