- Yes, it should of cource work on 68K based systems, I was looking for a
- PC implementation.
-
- I had a look on both Zoo and Booz. The Zoo from the normal distribution can
- be compiled on PC-Minix (after solving some long-label problems in huf.c and
- lzd.c) but I will not work due to lack of memory. Zoo uses 2x 8Kb buffers for
- I/O, one 8K buffer for LZ and if you have 8K stack then already 32K must be
- on the stack. After just compiling there is only 30K stack left. I didn't
- find count all the malloced area's so it just doesn't fit (and yes, zoo
- gives a FATAL: message when you still try to run it). Zoo has to be
- stripped or given less buffering to make a chance, or one has to invent
- somting smart to overcome the problem (like splitting zoo into 2
- executables).
-
- Booz is another matter. Booz is a Zoo extractor. After solving the same
- long label problems as zoo it works fine. Booz also needs 32K or so stack
- space, but in the case of Booz the space is there. Unfortunately Booz
- outputs MSDOS style names and doesn't recognize subdirectories. I've added
- that to Booz now (using parts from zoo!).
-
- The 1.6.24b patches now fit on 3x 720Kb disks in zoo format and the filenames
- are not distroyed by the use of an intermediate MSDOS format! It's a pitty
- that it only works one way.
-
- I have to check with Digital if I may post my patches, if I'm allowed I will
- post Booz for minix to this group.
-
- Kind Regards,
-
- Henk.
-
- P.S. I couln't find the patches syscal.ansi.sh.Z and syscal.kr.sh.Z on
- plains (subdir 1.6.23b). Are the forgotten or are the only for the owners
- of the compiler sources? Maybe I didn't look hard enough, I have to do
- everything via the ftpmail server at decwrl.
