  12.  The 8th NY/SIGAPL-sponsored "Tool of  Thought" professional development
  13.  seminar was held this past Saturday (January 23) in the facilities of
  14.  Cornell University Medical College/New York Hospital in Manhattan.

  16.  Plenary sessions were addressed by J. Philip Benkard on the topic of 
  17.  "Changing Perspectives" and by Kenneth E. Iverson on "From Iverson
  18.  Notation to J".  There were additionally over a dozen workshops and
  19.  tutorials.  Most speakers and attendees were from the New York metro
  20.  area, but others came from California, Texas, New England, Canada, and
  21.  the United Kingdom.  Academics, employees of large and small firms, and
  22.  independent consultants were among the attendees.  In all there were
  23.  approximately 70 attendees.

  25.  Spiral-bound proceedings are available (vii+141 pp.); I don't know the 
  26.  exact price yet, but it will not exceed $US 20 postpaid in North America.

  55.  ftp (most likeley at UWaterloo, once th details of transport are worked
  56.  out).

  58.  Somewhat to my surprise (and disappointment), there were no presentations
  59.  on or using J, except for Ken's plenary address, but (very) preliminary
  60.  preparations for ToT IX will be underway soon.  As soon as we have
  61.  a proposed date (or range of dates) and an address, I'll post it here.

  63.  Finally, I think it safe to say that a good time was had by all, and
  64.  NY/SIGAPL looks forward to the next ToT PDS.
