- Subject: WHo reads the Spatiotemporal Bibliography?
- Lines: 50
-
- At this rate, demand for the S.T.B. will outstrip that for newspapers
- carrying revelations of Prince Charles' love letters and tapes!
-
- I hope I am not being over-cynical, but I would love to know just what
- proportion of those dozens of people who have requested the bibliography
- have any intention ever to read it, use it, build on it? And, also, how
- many of those who have received copies have any intention of offering any
- sort of feedback to Richard Snodgrass et al? Have you thought of maybe
- letting the compilers know what your specific area of interest is? Or why
- you feel the Bibliography might aid you in your work? Or, even, how you
- can help make the next edition of the Bibliography even better and more
- comprehensive than the last? To paraphrase a well-known US president,
- "ask not what the Spatiotemporal Bibliography can do for you; but rather
- what you can do for it"!
-
- I have been working on another "niche" GIS bibliography project (and NO,
- I am NOT going to send out preview copies to all and sundry, so don't even
- ask!!!!), so I appreciate from hard-earned experience just what a boost to
- ones day it is when someone out there sends me an email detailing a new
- reference or two that I had not come across yet. It is even nicer if, as
- a few kind souls do, the authors of relevant publications send me a hard
- copy to assist me in compiling my bibliography entry.
-
- Has ANYBODY, out of all those who have asked for copies of the Spatiotemp.
- Bibiography, done ANYTHING to repay Richard, Michael and co for their effort?
- I for one would like publicly to thank Richard and colleagues, not only for
- their work in making the bibliography available to us, but also for their
- patience and forbearance in the face of the unseemly rush for copies. I
- bet they are beginning to wish that they never made the offer!
-
- Until another place and another time.... :-)
-
- Cheers,
-
