  51. spatial clustering/aggregation in previous studies. I think Openshaw
  52. worked on this in 70s or 80s. Putnam and
  53. Chung's on aggregation might also included compactness as a criteria
  54. (in Environment and Planning A, 80s).
  55. A classical paper on shape indices and compactness
  56. is by David Boyce and William Clark (old paper in 70s, I think in
  57. Regional Science).

  63. PS. I am an informatician working mainly at the Dept. of
  64. Psychology. Programs like GISes (much simpler) are used in
  65. our domain eg. for help in solving problems related to
  66. marketing or to public polling of political preferences
  67. (social psychology or sociology). I develop by myself a
  68. program of this type. Hence my interest in your discussion
  69. list... GISes are
