- Dear GISers,
-
- This is a summary of suggested readings on clustering
- of regions (not all of them were sent to the GIS-L
- and I was asked for these data by several people):

- ... criterion of spatial compactness has been used in
- spatial clustering/aggregation in previous studies. I think Openshaw
- worked on this in 70s or 80s. Putnam and
- Chung's on aggregation might also included compactness as a criteria
- (in Environment and Planning A, 80s).
- A classical paper on shape indices and compactness
- is by David Boyce and William Clark (old paper in 70s, I think in
- Regional Science).
-
- thanks again for help

- PS. I am an informatician working mainly at the Dept. of
- Psychology. Programs like GISes (much simpler) are used in
- our domain eg. for help in solving problems related to
- marketing or to public polling of political preferences
- (social psychology or sociology). I develop by myself a
- program of this type. Hence my interest in your discussion
- list... GISes are
- everywhere!********************************************************************
