- David Woods of the Cognitive Systems Engineering Laboratory at
- Ohio State (no email address, sorry) has some excellent information
- on the kinds of situations you're asking about. In particular, he has
- an excellent understanding of the nature of the "keyhole problem" which
- arises when you cram too much information and too many screens on one
- display -- as happens in many glass cockpits and other techno-wonders.
-
- At the recent Intelligent UI conference in Orlando, David discussed
- many of these problems and the results they can have, up to and including
- at least one passenger jet crash due to modality confusion in pilots.
- Bad UIs are not just an esthetic problem, folks.
-
- Hope this is what you're looking for. Good luck.
