  15. Description : Z_slicer interpolates a 2D irregular field at a specified Z
  16.               value from a 3D irregular field with stretched ("sigma")
  17.               vertical coordinates. This is a common need in 3D
  18.               atmospheric and oceanic models, where irregular fields
  19.               have fixed X,Y locations for each vertical index, but Z
  20.               values vary with the thickness of the fluid layer.
