  12. [I apologize in advance for those of you who read the related (but
  13.  distinct) groups to which I have cross-posted]

  15. I am conducting a research project which requires the use of 
  16. full-motion video and/or animation.  The problem is to simulate the 
  17. output from video cameras that overlook roads and highways.  The system 
  18. operator would be able to control camera zoom and pan, and would need to 
  19. be able to view traffic under at least hundreds of different conditions.
  20. It is possible that we will consider using pre-recorded video to be 
  21. displayed under computer control, but animated video techniques are 
  22. also being considered.  I am specifically interested in information 
  23. regarding:

  25. o Hardware for various platforms (SGI, Sun, Mac, PC)
  26. o Software for animation and recommended platforms
  27. o Storage devices best suited for storing large amounts of compressed video
  28. o U.S. Companies which have animation production facilities
  29.  
  30. In addition to the above items, we would also be interested in hearing 
  31. about any extremely high-end (supercomputer-based?) systems that might 
  32. be used in the animation industry.

  35. Any experiences you would like to share about the above issues would 
  36. be appreciated.  If a significant number of responses are received 
  37. I will be glad to post a summary.
