- On the ZyXEL U-1496E (as on many external modems) there is a light called
- HS. On modems generally it lights up if you are at your highest speed.
- On my ZyXEL U-1496E it lights up if I am at 9600, 14400, or 16800.
-
- Nothing about the light tells you which of those three is the case.
-
- I realize from your post that you cannot easily go into command mode
- because of the application you are running. Too bad. As I'm sure
- you know, if only you could get a chance to see the "connect" message,
- you would be able to get the answer.
- Or if you could escape with +++ and then type ATO, you would again
- get the connect message with the answer.
-
- One of the ZyXELs has an LCD display. Maybe it shows the data rate
- on the display? Does anybody know? The user manual I have
- suggests that the U-1496 (with no letter at the end) is the one
- with the LCD, and that the display shows both the DCE data rate
- and the phone-line data rate.
