- The above msg implies to me that you want two pieces of software to access
- the same device at the same time. /TILT/. On the other hand, there is a
- product called The Complete Communicator which is able to take FAX, Modem,
- _and_ voice calls, treating each differently. Unfortunately, its modem is
- still only 2400 (FAX is 9600), and the way it identifies the call type is
- not completely automated (incoming callers must press a touch tone
- sequence to switch to other than the default, which can be any of the
- three call types). I have mine set up to default to voice, but my voice
- message (my voice) says to press 3-2-9 if you are sending a FAX. If I have
- modem software running, I can have another code to switch to it. The software
- for this board is a TSR. This means you can run your BBS in the foreground,
- with CCOM defaulting to answer to the modem. Your voice answer would be a
- quick "Press x-x-x for FAX, now, else here's the modem". Of course, this
- means that someone sending you a FAX cannot simply have their FAX call you
- to send; they've got to manually hit those keys. You could default to the
- FAX, but then callers to your BBS would have to manually send tones to
- switch to the modem. And, of course, this is a single line device, so you
- can't take FAX and modem calls at the same time. Note that DV is not used
- with this arrangement. To do what you seem to describe, servicing both types
- of calls at the same time, requires two comm boards and two different pieces
- of software running. They do not have to be DV aware; DV will keep them
- from interfering with each other by not letting each even know the other's
- port exists. At high baud rates, you'll want to be using a '386 or better.
-
- Hope this information is useful. Feel free to email if you have more
- questions. Like I said, I have a CCOM myself and like it.
