  23. 1. This depends on the software you're using. Most fax software packages that I
  24. know of will convert text, tiff, etc. into a bitmap format that is then sent
  25. out. For instance, Quick Link II will convert PCL, tiff and various other
  26. formats to what they call "QFX" format.

  28. 2. Faxes are viewed in two ways: By the fax program itself or by any graphics
  29. program (e.g. paintbrush) after conversion to the proper format by the fax
  30. package.

  32. 3. Yes, there are fax/modem boards available that can detect what kind of call
  33. is incoming (voice/fax/modem). Look in the trade rags for these (e.g. Computer
  34. Shopper).

  36. 4. Sorry, there are so many brands with different features that I won't cover
  37. them here. Perhaps you can locate past issues of the various trade rags for
  38. reviews on fax/modems.
