  13. Hello all, I hope this isn't an FAQ, I have been evaluating (on trial)
  14. oracle (os2 - unix - dos) for construction of a network - available
  15. lab-testing dbms for our R&D labs. Our MIS shop has asked that we look 
  16. at ingres (we have a very big ask/manman system which _might_ someday
  17. becom a manman/x - ingres implementation). My requirements are as 
  18. follows, in order of importance:

  20. end-user access (engineers, technicians) to dbms over net at the 
  21. application level (we like Pioneer's Q&E tool)
  22.  
  23. cross - network NOS function, Oracle _seems_ capable of working 
  24. between tcp/ip, IPX/SPX, and netbios environments.

  26. good 3rd party support
  27.  
  28. in the long term: good s/w development tools, We are starting without
  29. forms and 4gl, but will probably want these next year.

  31. also, how well do these two systems exchange data today? Prospects for
  32. the future?
