- Actually, Solaris 2.X is a multi-threaded operating system designed to
- control multiple CPUs. To even use the "SunOS compatibility" mode,
- there is a long list of "thread safe" practices that the code must use.
- I am not sure what those are, but I was told by a Sun rep that if the
- program is of any complexity at all, and was compiled under SunOS,
- chances are that a re-compile under Solaris 2.X is the minimum needed.
- I also heard from this same rep that Ask/Ingres had committed to a
- Solaris 2.X port sometime this year, but I don't remember the dates. In
- general, this is a "new OS" as far as any software is concerned.
