- Some people at our company have been involved with developing a pretty big
- system for the last few years here in Sweden.
-
- The system is a distributed documenthandling system (export/import-documents)
- at The Swedish Customs. It also handles most of the rules for customs clearing.
-
- It's running on a VAX/VMS central cluster and 17 DECSystem/Ultrix local
- machines. A couple of the local machines are actually 2 with one frontend and
- one backend machine. The local machines are placed around Sweden.
-
- The central cluster doesn't have any "logged on" user so far but 1 EDI-server,
- 17 store-and-forward servers plus maybe 30 - 50 TCP/IP-connect (not Ingres/Net)
- users.
-
- The biggest local machines have maybe 60 concurrent users and the smallest
- just a few. During busy times it might be a total of around 400 concurrent
- users logged in. Each machine also have a store-and-forward server connect
- to the local Ingres database.
-
- The data is distributed in the manner that the original is located in a local
- machine and copies are held at one or two more machines. The way we have done
- this anybody can get hold of a copy of a document with maximum going over to
- one other machine.
