- I'm trying to get a handle on video quality. For instance, I'd like to
- be able to compare the quality of, say, an analog Betacam video with
- a CCIR 601 digital video with X:1 JPEG compression. Basically,
- I'd like to create a table in some way with analog and digital video
- standards, different types of compression (JPEG, MPEG I, MPEGII, and
- some type of lossless compression), and compression levels (ie 20:1,
- 100:1, etc)
-
- To start with, I think I need some basic facts:
- And I have a couple questions:
-
- What are different resolution standards for digital video?
- I know of CCIR 601, CIF and SIF, but I am having trouble tacking down
- their exact resolutions.
-
- How can I compare analog quality to quality of compressed digital?
- Signal to noise vs ???
-
- Any good references to these sort of issues?
-
- Thanks for any ideas.
