  33. Career opportunity for a person to contribute to the design,
  34. implementation, and enhancement of an optimizing backend targeted towards
  35. parallel RISC machines.  This backend employs state of the art scheduling
  36. and register allocation techniques, and is tied to a highly restructuring
  37. phase based on sophisticated dependence analysis.  As a result, advanced
  38. dependence information is available to this backend, permitting very
  39. aggressive scheduling techniques.  A B.S. in Computer Science with a focus
  40. in compiler construction is required, with a Masters desirable.  Three
  41. years or more experience implementing scalar optimizations (particularly
  42. register allocators and instruction schedulers) is also required.
  43. Experience with RISC architectures, superscalar architectures, and
  44. parallel machines is highly desirable.

  69. Current opportunity for a person to manage sustained engineering on a
  70. highly advanced automatic restructuring compiler.  Transformations that
  71. are currently included in the compiler include advanced dependence
  72. analysis, loop interchange, limited interprocedural analysis, scalar
  73. replacement, loop distribution, parallelization, and vectorization.  The
  74. person in this job will be responsible for managing a small group whose
  75. charter is to support and extend the functionality of this compiler.
  76. A B.S. in Computer Science is required, with a Masters (preferably focused
  77. in compiler construction) being highly desirable.  Five or more years of
  78. implementation experience is also a requirement.  Some managerial
  79. experience is a plus, but is not a necessity; this job can be viewed as an
  80. introductory step into management.  Experience with advanced restructuring
  81. compilers is also a plus, as is experience with RISC architectures and
  82. parallel machines.
  83. This job is technical management, with the emphasis on technical.  The
  84. management overhead is expected to be low (roughly 25% of the job's time),
  85. so that technical implementation will be an important part of the job.
  86. The job can be viewed as either an introductory step into management, for
  87. a highly technical person desiring management responsibility, and a chance
  88. to learn the technical details of restructuring compilers, for a person
  89. with management experience.
