  11. Okay, here's the scoop....

  13. I was hoping to release another more complete UUBatch beta this weekend
  14. but it will be delayed probably about a week or so. It is changing way
  15. to fast now, so wouldn't make much sense for me to.

  17. To date UUBatch for Waffle/Dos offers...
  18.  
  19. - Batched/compressed email in uubatch 1.0.5 compatible form.
  20.   Uudebat/uucdebat available for Dos as well, of course.

  22. - Batched/compressed email in the rbmail format. Rbmail was already
  23.   ported and posted sometime ago. Rcbmail included.
  24.  
  25. - An external compression encapsulation layer. Sites can setup and
  26.   define almost ANY external compression program they want to archive
  27.   mail batches. Has been tested with Arj and Zip, but will work with
  28.   Lha, Zoo, and others. The savings over Unix compress are very impressive.
  29.   Adebatch, an open ended compressed batch reciever, makes this possible.
  30.   Only available for Waffle/Dos <--> Waffle/Dos sites at the moment unless
  31.   someone ports Adebatch to Unix. (Please! Please! It should be easy...)

  33. - A news archiving option that makes use of Adebatch to compress news
  34.   jobs with any external archiver of choice. Just say no to Unix compress.
  35.   Use Arj.... I've seen up to a 15%-20% savings in local tests with it.

  40. - Equivalents for rsmtp, rcsmtp to recieve batched/compressed mail from
  41.   sites running Smail. The ability to generate jobs (batch mail) in
  42.   batched smtp form.

  44. - Support for scanning the feeds file versus repetitive command line use.
  45.   Will have /uubatch= and /uucomp= options, possibly more.

  47. - Better rebatching of queued jobs. Support to rebatch adebatch jobs
  48.   still needs implementing, is more complicated.

  50. - Better I/O handling (currently need enough free memory to read in
  51.   whole files at once, this will change) and error handling.

  64. I'd like to thank everyone who has inquired, even though I didn't get
  65. back to everyone by mail. When it settles down to a working release
  66. again it'll be announced, available by mailserver, and put on Halcyon.

  69. UUCP sites anywhere, and can get the specs on their format and what
  70. programs do what, please notify me and I'll see if I can't try to add
  71. support for them as well.
