- MPEGEXE.ZIP contains the Windows 3.1 software allowing users
- with any brand of SVGA card supporting a minimum resolution of
- 640x480x256 to view MPEG animations.
- If there is a DLL file written for your SVGA card (ATI, Cirrus,
- Compaq, S3, Trident 8900, Tseng Et4000, Video 7, Western Digital),
- download MPEGEXE.ZIP and the ZIP file for your SVGA card (filename
- is mdll???.zip, with the ??? indicating your SVGA dll, for example,
- mdllati.zip is for ati). Unzip the mpegexe software into a subdir
- on your hard drive, perhaps \mpeg. Unzip the DLL archive into a
- temp subdir, then move only the *.DLL files to your \windows\system
- subdir. Boot Windows. Run MFW.EXE. Click on "View," "Video
- Driver," and then select the SVGA card you have the DLLs for.
- Click on that card in the list. Make sure you have the DLLs in
- your \windows\system subdirectory! Then click on "Preferences" and
- save your settings.
- If your SVGA card has no specially written DLL, download
- MPEGEXE.ZIP and MDLLATI.ZIP. Install as above, but after running
- MFW.EXE click on "View," and then "Use DIB," and then
- "Preferences," and finally "Save Settings/path." Confirm query and
- the software will be installed.

- MDLLATI.ZIP is a specially written DLL file written for ATI VGA
- Wonder XL SVGA cards in order to improve MPEG performance. It is
- also recommended to get this file if you see no DLL written for
- your SVGA card, as this will allow you to run MFW and change the
- View mode to "Use DIB," after which the program uses Windows's DIB
- interface to display MPEG graphics. The DLL files are still
- required, they just serve as a "dummy/decoy"; the mfw.exe program
- needs to see the DLLs in \windows\system, even if it does use the
- DIB interface.
