  30.    MPEGEXE.ZIP contains the Windows 3.1 software allowing users
  31. with any brand of SVGA card supporting a minimum resolution of
  32. 640x480x256 to view MPEG animations.
  33.    If there is a DLL file written for your SVGA card (ATI, Cirrus,
  34. Compaq, S3, Trident 8900, Tseng Et4000, Video 7, Western Digital),
  35. download MPEGEXE.ZIP and the ZIP file for your SVGA card (filename
  36. is mdll???.zip, with the ??? indicating your SVGA dll, for example,
  37. mdllati.zip is for ati).  Unzip the mpegexe software into a subdir
  38. on your hard drive, perhaps \mpeg.  Unzip the DLL archive into a
  39. temp subdir, then move only the *.DLL files to your \windows\system
  40. subdir.  Boot Windows.  Run MFW.EXE.  Click on "View," "Video
  41. Driver," and then select the SVGA card you have the DLLs for.
  42. Click on that card in the list.  Make sure you have the DLLs in
  43. your \windows\system subdirectory!  Then click on "Preferences" and
  44. save your settings.
  45.    If your SVGA card has no specially written DLL, download
  46. MPEGEXE.ZIP and MDLLATI.ZIP.  Install as above, but after running
  47. MFW.EXE click on "View," and then "Use DIB," and then
  48. "Preferences," and finally "Save Settings/path."  Confirm query and
  49. the software will be installed.

  53. MDLLATI.ZIP is a specially written DLL file written for ATI VGA
  54. Wonder XL SVGA cards in order to improve MPEG performance.  It is
  55. also recommended to get this file if you see no DLL written for
  56. your SVGA card, as this will allow you to run MFW and change the
  57. View mode to "Use DIB," after which the program uses Windows's DIB
  58. interface to display MPEG graphics.  The DLL files are still
  59. required, they just serve as a "dummy/decoy"; the mfw.exe program
  60. needs to see the DLLs in \windows\system, even if it does use the
  61. DIB interface.
