- FOR BEST 1992 STORAGE PRODUCT
-
-
- MAYNARD, Mass. -- January 20, 1993 -- Digital Equipment Corporation
- today announced that MacUser magazine has selected its DSP3105, a
- 3.5-inch high-performance, high-capacity disk drive, as the winner
- of the eighth annual Editor's Choice (Eddy) Award for Best Storage
- Product. The Eddy Award recognizes the best Macintosh products of
- the year based on technological innovation, quality, performance and
- value to Macintosh users.
-
- "This award signifies another benchmark in the OEM Mass Storage
- Group's commitment to provide industry-leading solutions," said
- Charles Christ, vice president, Storage Business Unit for Digital.
- "We are pleased MacUser has recognized our success in surpassing
- market demands for increasingly sophisticated, reliable disk
- technology."
-
- "The Eddy Awards were designed by MacUser to recognize
- innovative, high-quality hardware and software products that reflect
- the trends shaping the Macintosh market," said Jon Zilber, MacUser's
- editor-in-chief. "We awarded Digital's DSP3105 a 1992 Eddy Award
- because of its unparalleled performance over competitive products
- and its ability to provide a highly-reliable storage solution to
- Macintosh users."
-
- The DSP3105 is a FAST SCSI-2 disk drive featuring 1,050
- megabytes (1.05 gigabytes) of formatted capacity, 5,400 RPM
- rotational speed and 9.5 millisecond average seek time. This
- 3.5-inch drive also features Digital's 512-kb cache buffer and
- 264-bit Reed-Solomon error correction code for increased performance
- and data reliability. The DSP3105, released in January 1992, is
- designed for capacity-intensive and space-limited systems such as
- Macintosh systems, high-performance personal computers, LANs, and
- file servers.
-
- "The 1992 Eddy Award is a tremendous achievement and
- underscores Digital's OEM Disk Business' charter to provide the
- highest-quality, highest-performance disk drives," added Jack Sharp,
- the storage OEM business manager for Digital. "Receiving ISO9000
- certification of our manufacturing processes, Novell NetWare
- certification of our disk drives, and now the Eddy Award, shows both
- the disk industry and our customers that we provide the highest
- levels of quality, performance, and reliability in the field."
-
- The Eddy Award, the Macintosh industry's most prestigious, is
- presented each year to 40 designers and manufacturers of new
- Macintosh hardware and software products, as well as to three
- individuals for their personal contributions to the Macintosh
- market. MacUser's editors and lab technicians chose this year's
- winners from over 1,000 product submissions. The ceremony was held
