  14. I'm new to the Internet and a bit confused about using this list.  I'm not
  15. sure who sees what, what's addressed to who and if some of my messages
  16. have been seen.  I'm also confused about what some people expect with regard
  17. to the form in which a subject is to be discussed.

  19. In the media discussion, I believed that I posted a message about the
  20. RACISM IN THE MEDIA as it relates to how African Americans are portrayed in
  21. the media.  In the message I pointed out several personal observations
  22. (measured events for the scientist in the crowd) of how people working
  23. for the media actively conveying only a negative image of African Americans.

  25. I noticed on XCULT that right when I posted this message, someone suggested
  26. that it was time for the conversation on the media to stop.  Again, I'm not
  27. sure if the message was seen by all the list users,  I just wonder why no one
  28. responded to my observation about racism in the media, and if it was seen,
  29. was the suggestion to end the discussion, simply the standard repsonse of
  30. so-called liberal intellectuals to any real discussion of the systematic
  31. distorion of images of African Americans in this country.  By the way, I've
  32. noticed that most of the villains in cartoons have brown skin, most of the
  33. criminals on crime shows have brown skin, most of the criminals on the
  34. TV dramas have brown skins and a disporportionate number of the people
  35. that are executed for crimes in this country have brown skin.

  38. it must me a duck.

  40. Returning to the question of conspiracy in the media, I saw someone point
  41. out that conspiracy requires a high degree of complicity.  I admit that this is
  42. only an analogy, but here goes.   The systematic exploitaion of African-
  43. Americans in this country (for now I'll discuss it prior to the civil rights
  44. act) required a high degree of complicity that was both spoken and unspoken.
  45. No one denies that racism existed in this country and that it was widespread.
  46. Racism was a conspiracy.  Racism was profitable.  By analogy, I suggest
  47. that a democracy that permits capital accumulation is a conspiracy and
  48. the media plays a major role in maintaining and perpetuating capital
  49. accumulation.  I'm not sure that everyone in the list will see this message
  50. so I will not elaborate.  In addition, given that there seem to be such
  51. staunch defenders of the status quo, that subscribe to this list,
  52. I doubt that elaborating on it will do much good.

  54. On a separate matter, I saw someone say that someone was taking stuff
  55. personally.  Again, I'm new to this list, but I take everything personally.
  56. I take my life personally and I take any assaults on anyones life
  57. personally.  I take the current political and social order, personally.
