- Perhaps, Dave, but is that a function of 'american democracy'. I don't
- think so. Something else, some other fundamental value, has created, for
- better or for worse, an AMERICAN ideal which has persisted, in relative
- stability, for over 100 years.

- highly exclusive - excluding blacks, women, the poor and so on.
