  18. To be Frank (and there's nothing WRONG with me wanting to be Frank, so
  19. quit *badgering* me): the Portland idea sucks. It's too far and there's
  20. nothing interesting besides the Salmonbake. This thing should be nearer to
  21. where the majority of Wordslers live, which is to say, the east coast.
  22. Also, there seems to be a dearth of, erm, organization regarding the
  23. Portland thing. One reason the Clambake was so successful was that it was
  24. just a drive for many people. Many of us made it our Big Summer Trip(tm),
  25. but there were lots of people who just drove up for the day and that made
  26. it Truly Special and oh my, I think I need a handkerchief. Putting it in
  27. Portland makes it The Big Summer Trip for almost everyone---or at least
  28. for a significantly higher number than for an east coast blowout, and
  29. thereby limits its interest and potential attendance. Some folks would go
  30. to a Words-L gathering if it were held in the 5th circle of hell, which
  31. looking back on some of the extracurricular activities at the Clambake, is
  32. not at all out of the question some day, but lots won't or can't take the
  33. time or have the resources to make such a mammoth journey.

  35. So I'd say let's quickly move it back east, or at least midwest. Or North
  36. Carolina. I'm sure we'd ALL be welcome at Giggles' house.
