- Which Norwegians speak Bokmal and which Nynorsk? Is the split regional?
- Social? Other? How did both happen to become "Standard Norwegian(s)"?

- If you weren't Torkel, you might say in answer to my questions above that
- you *told* me that only Norwegians understand these matters. Being Torkel,
- you'll either give an answer or make some kind of cryptic allusion to
- languages deteriorating into grunts (not in reference to Norwegian in
- particular -- just a general comment).
-
- Being a USer, I am not expected to realize that Stockholm is not in Norway,
- of course. :-) That reminds me. Have I ever told the story of the
- student here who was trying to calm a Chinese student who had been upset
- by something he misinterpretd as being anti-China in a book they were
- looking at? She said, "But Mr. Ji, we just *loovvveee* Toyotas!" True
- story.
-
- And now I've gotta log off and go talk about Beowulf to students who think
- that Beowulf was one of the great leaders in fighting off the Yankees at
- Shiloh.
