- Much as I dislike Toal's tone, I agree with him to an extent. It's
- really not very different from the hacks in India who write poems on
- such occasions.

- It struck me that "inaugural" celebrations in India are actually quite
- instructive. They go through the same motions, but when you see the
- cynicism in their actions, and hopeless faces mouthing messages of hope,
- their apologetic looks for acting out formulas, the world-weary singing
- of hymns, and the display of their total lack of naivete, you suddenly
- glimpse a profundity in these otherwise trivial people.
